Almost Fall time.  It’s that time to think about our lovely students and PS 130.  I have to think about our gas prices and the commute back and forth.  I am however looking forward to the children and helping them as much as I can with their reading abilities.

The students of 3-302 wrote a complete story, drew storyboards to decide how the story should look in a video, then photographed the story.  They had such detailed story boards, and so many well-crafted “small moments” in their writing, filled with details, that they did not have time to finish recording all of the narration to go along with their photos.

This video sets up the story with a combination of voices and images.  Then it takes away the narrator, and finishes the story with images only.

See if you can still figure out what happens to Donna at the dance studio, and leave a comment with your written description.

The students of class 3-308 wrote the story of Lonely Jack, then decided how it should look on screen by drawing storyboards, choosing between close-ups, mid-shots, and wide shots depending on what they wanted the image to communicate.

Then they went to the playground and used a digital camera to take photos to match their storyboards. They loaded the 3 iMacs in their classroom with the photos and soundtrack music, and edited 6 different versions of the movie in 6 groups, using iMovie.

Class 3-307 is talking about what we do when we get angry.  Read our comments, and leave your own comment telling us what you do when you get angry to make your self feel better.

We have been studying the social issues in the book Just Juice by Karen Hesse.  There is so much that we have been discussing in class together.  Caglar brought up an interesting point about Pa.  He said, “It’s Pa’s fault that the family is loosing their home.  Pa decided to talk back to his boss. That’s why he lost his job.”

Do you agree with Caglar?  Why or why not?

Is it fair that they are loosing their home?

Towels and SharpeiTHE DO GOODERS COMMUNITY ACTION GROUP consists of ESL students in collaboration with other students from the P.S. 130 Community who are interested in helping animals in the community. We are starting small, at local animal shelters. We are looking for towels and blankets that are no longer used in your home.
They must be cleaned before they are donated. Please bring them to room 304 or place them in the box in the lunchroom that has been designated for this collection. This activity is already under way! Let’s make a difference in the lives of the animals that are living in shelters waiting to be adopted into a wonderful and loving home!!!!
